Recognizing the need to tap the body’s ability to heal itself, he began a residency in 1985 in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the A.T.Still University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO. He also trained with the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture in 1986. In 1987, he joined the Department of Osteopathic Services at Eastmoreland Hospital in Portland, Oregon, becoming its Director in 1990. This department provided osteopathic manipulative treatment at a high level to inpatients and outpatients at the hospital. He also was in charge of educational activities in osteopathic principles and practice for the interns and residents that received their training there. He developed and directed educational programs for practicing physicians who came to seminars held at the hospital. In 1991, he moved to his present location in Durango, Colorado to open a private practice in osteopathic manipulative medicine, nutritional counseling, homotoxicology, and medical acupuncture. He uses a system he developed to read the body for diagnostic and treatment strategies.

Dr Lee has served in various capacities in his professional organizations, on boards, foundations, and research committees. While on the faculty of the Basic Course of the Cranial Academy he taught physicians and osteopathic students for several years serving as the director of the midwinter course for three years. In 1989, he was awarded the Certificate of Competency in Cranial Osteopathy from the Cranial Academy. He was certified by the American Board of Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in 1991 and by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture in 2000. He also was awarded Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy, FAAO, in 2000.

He has published several articles in the AAO Journal and Cranial Letter and has lectured before the AAO and the Cranial Academy at their annual meetings. In November 2006, he presented the Rollin Becker Memorial Lecture before the Sutherland Cranial College in London, England. He also was guest faculty for the Canadian College of Osteopathy both in Toronto, Canada in 2006 and Frauenchiemsee, Germany in 2007. In 2005 he published a book, Interface: Mechanisms of Spirit in Osteopathy about the spiritual basis of osteopathic philosophy and a theoretical physiological model of the primary respiratory mechanism.
